There's no doubt that being Active in the game is the only way to earn coins/sec at very fast rate.
If you want to earn coins while doing nothing, just upgrade your your Minions.
However a few active taps is more better than your minions passive attacks.

Minions respectively posses different combination of skills.
Skills are reinforced when minions evolve with frequent level-ups.
